In addition to malt extract, the Pale Ales also contain No. 3 invert sugar and tiny amounts of caramel. The latter, presumably, for colour correction.
In the dark beers, it’s Flo Sweet, DAS and CDM. Not sure what the first two are, but the last is Caramelised Dextro-Maltose, a less readily fermentable sugar which added body and colour.
Total sugar content is around 6.5% for the Pale Ales and 14% for the dark beers.

These are a couple of old ads for Flo Sweet. It sounds like it was pure sugar in liquid form.

It looks like it was made in big enough quantities to be shipped by railroad tanker cars. Soda pop companies bought enormous amounts of it before switching to corn syrup.
Ron, if the malt extract was used for enzymes, it must’ve been added to the mash, right?
Flo-Sweet apparently also produced invert sugar and other stuff. Probably this was refined liquid invert or possibly pure glucose.
