Let's Brew Wednesday stats

How's this for naval gazing - tables of statistics about the blog. Or one series of posts, Let's Brew Wednesday.

I counted 89 recipes in all, broken down by style like this:

No surpise that a watery WW I Government Ale was the least popular and an Imperial Stout the most popular. It is heartening that the second most popular was a 1950's Dark Mild.

1804 to 1987, with every decade inbetween represented, with the exceptioon of the 1820's. I must fix that. Not a bad spread.

Can I say that I am very proud to work with Ron on these recipes. We make a bloody great team. I'm also equally as proud and you tossers. Look at the top 2 beers. An Imperial stout (go figure) but a mild!? Bloody too right! Thanks for the love gang, Ron and I have some great plans for the new year!

I think you may be underestimating yourself. I make it that your table has 97 rows, not 89. Plus the 'date posted' dates in your table only go back to 2010, while google suggests they should go back further.

in terms of the beers people tell me that they've brewed, the Milds and lower-gravity Pale Ales, like AK, seem the most popular.

if I want to brew a low gravity beer (or any style of British origin) the Let's Brew posts are the first place I look for inspiration. My recipe choices were often based on the available ingredients: 6-row, mild malt are very hard for me to get and when I get them I'm going to do a recipe that uses them almost exclusively (1943 Oat Mild). I've also stopped brewing recipes with impossibly high finishing gravities (I don't have any temperature control so I'm not able to stop fermentation).

hitting a high FG is one of the biggest problem with some historic beers. It's stalled for the moment my project to get a 19th-century style Salvator brewed commercially.
