Another cool Guinness video

I loved bottle-conditioned Guinness so much. Never had it corked, mind

Dead impressed the bloke can pick the corked sample.

I'm especially impressed he passed the taste test right after a big pull on a cigarette.

I hadn't realized pubs bottled and corked their own -- I had assumed it was always shipped to them that way.

Wouldn't there have been issues with corks getting pushed out of the bottles over time? No cages over the corks. Or were they consumed so quickly after bottling that it was never an issue. Obviously not as carbonated as say, a belgian strong ale or something, but I've had it happen with bottles of homemade wine that weren't properly degassed so I would think it could happen to any beer...

I showed that clip to a publican just last night. He said If crates of it where ever being transported in the truck in hot weather they had to cover it with a tarpaulin to prevent the corks from popping. He also told a story about a barrel of what he called “Guinness singles Porter“ blowing its tap off and spraying the entire contents against an opposite wall during the hot summer of 1966!

Darach, that still happens with cask ale occasionally. Most pub cellars have a stain or two on the ceiling.
