My YouTube channel

A Truman Sampson strong Bitter pump clip featuring a black eagle.
You might have noticed that I've posted a few videos on YouTube over the last couple of days. There will be more to follow.

It's part of my drive to document and preserve. Initially, it's mostly material that I acquired for my book on the 1970s, "Keg!". I conducted several Zoom interviews Which I think are worth making public. Especially as the interviewees are all past retirement age. And won't be around forever.

I'm particularly keen on recording Derek Prentice's recollections of more than half a century in brewing. Despite my urging, Derek shows no interest in writing his memoirs. But he's happy to be interviewed and share his memories. I already have around two hours of video. And plan to record several more. Covering his time at Youngs and Fullers.

My intention is to assemble as much video as I can, documenting the last 50 or 60 years of UK brewing. The stuff that normally doesn't get recorded and rarely makes its way into books. Creating what I hope will be a useful source for future historians.

I welcome suggestions for people to interview. I already have around a dozen names, which should keep me going for a while.

I think the interview with the Paquette's was extremely interesting. It could be interesting for you to talk to one or more of the early American craft brewers , especially ones that started with little knowledge (homebrew level) or money, and persisted as their brewery expanded. You could contrast the problems encountered in the US against the British experience.

That sounds great. A discussion about the creation of Bengal Lancer and recipe tips to recreate it would be wonderful. Cheers Peter

This is great. I'd suggest looking into a backup site too, like archive.org

You never know if in a year or three Youtube does something stupid to make them inaccessible, or some major entity blocks access to Youtube. I don't have a lot of faith that powerful prople at Google, other internet companies, or in governments are smart enough to understand what they're doing.

For the Beer Bible, I interviewed John Bexon (then at Greene King), Steve Barrett at Sam Smith's (retired), John Keeling at Fuller's (retired), George Howell at Belhaven (retired--he has a TON of great memories about old Scottish practices), and Miles Jenner at Harvey's. All of them would be very rewarding. A younger but fascinating interview is Fergus Fitzgerald at Adnams. Plus a lot of non-Brits if you're interested in them (Rudi Ghequire, now retired, at Rodenbach might be up your alley).
