Time was there were only a couple of pubs in Amsterdam with more than a dozen taps: Ind Wildeman, Arends Nest, Gollem – that was about it. Now a new one is popping up almost every week.
Hot on the heels of Dopey’s tap upgrade, Tap Zuid and the Jopen Proeflokaal is Taproom, boasting no fewer than 20 draught lines. Quite impressive for what is quite modestly-sized pub. It used to be a rather old-fashioned place called De Gelach Kamer. Never looked like much laughing was going on, mind.
Taproom opened so recently that inside it still smells of paint and varnish. It’s got the stripped-down look that those young folks seem to like so much. The bastards. I hate them, with their beards, tattoos and smart phones. But I digress.
One good point about Taproom: the beer prices aren’t ridiculous. The draughts are mostly €3.90 – 4.50, which is quite reasonable for today’s Amsterdam. Some pubs are just charging silly prices for this “craft” shit. I refuse to be ripped off like that. The beers themselves are mostly from local outfits, with a few international craft names thrown in:
Thornbridge, Brooklyn, Flying Dog, Kompaan, Maximus, Ramses, Oedipus, ‘t Ij, Butcher's Tears, De Prael, Cinema Brewing Two Chefs, Amsterdam Brewboys, Two Chefs, Amsterdam Brewing, Zeeburg, Bruut, Texels, De Vriendschap, Weihenstephaner and Heineken.
All in all, a reasonable enough place. Handy if you’re visiting the Heineken Experience, too.

I love that it's next to a doner kebab place. Craft beer and doner says something good about changing food and drink options in Amsterdam, I think.
