My publisher has put together a new cover for my book that's coming out in January, The Home Brewer's Guide to Vintage Beer. I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye.
Why? Because it includes the label of the beer my mum used to drink. At least until it was discontinued. See if you can guess which one it is.
For some reason I get the feeling the Milk Maid is too obvious, so how about the Greene King Burton Ale?
ReplyDeleteNice cover.
ReplyDeleteThat beer would be Milkmaid Stout from Northgate Brewery in Newark.

I'm going for the one on the right of the picture, Allsopp's QWERTY Brown Ale ("It's True To Type!"). Discontinued after an ill-judged advertising campaign featuring the slogan "Get The Ty...pist!"
ReplyDeleteDid I see a Warwick's label lurking in the background?
ReplyDeleteMarquis,
ReplyDeleteone of the things that really pleased me saabout the cover design was how many Newark labels are on it. There are in fact two Warwick's labels on the front cover.
I'm going for the Burton, too.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not the Milk Maid Stout, it's the Warwick's Home Brewed.
ReplyDeleteGreene King Burton, as brewed in the 1970s, at least, ie later than the label on the front of Ron's book, was bottled Greene King dark mild, and about 2.8% abv. I knew a pub in Hertfordshire where the landlord would have to get in a grate once a month for the one old boy who would drinkl nothing else.
