Government Ale joke (2)

From Punch Punch, May 28th, 1919.

"Government ale, says a trade paper, will shortly be on sale in some parts of Ireland. This certainly ought to be a lesson to them."

    The War of Independence had been sputtering along for five months at this stage. Within five weeks everything had gone nuts. Coincidence?
