Up the steps - lounge to the left and Tap room to the right and in the middle was a wooden shutter. You knocked on this, up it came and you got whatever you had brought with you filled with beer. It was called the Kettle Hole.antrog65https://www.blogger.com/profile/03730533185834425964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445569787371915337.post-72662316932775898962016-11-19T04:09:19.686-08:002016-11-19T04:09:19.686-08:00To David Boshko- try http://www.gardengateleeds.co...To David Boshko- try http://www.gardengateleeds.co.uk/, the photos section, for a gander at a real traditional pub.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17094239108376089272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445569787371915337.post-14006487448092604822016-11-18T14:20:29.740-08:002016-11-18T14:20:29.740-08:00There used to be a few pubs in Cardiff with 'V...There used to be a few pubs in Cardiff with 'Vaults' in the name. Never heard it called a snuggery, though. And yes, the public in older pubs is often called the vault; I always vaguely thought it was something to do with having a high ceiling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445569787371915337.post-71350015717715832442016-11-17T02:44:31.633-08:002016-11-17T02:44:31.633-08:00Would the drinking corridor you mention as missing...Would the drinking corridor you mention as missing in the lists correspond to the Franconian Schwemm: vertical drinking , technically outside the Wirtshaus proper so you could have a quick one or three and honestly answer:
“Been to the pub, have we?” – “Why, no, darling!”
Also reminds me of the corridor in the Blue Anchor, Helston.
